Day 01
Moshi to Mandara Hut
Your adventure begins with a drive from Moshi to Marangu Gate, where your trek officially starts. After registration and briefing, you’ll begin hiking through lush rainforest alive with the sounds of tropical birds and playful blue monkeys. The trail is cool and shaded, winding gently upward to Mandara Hut, your first overnight stop. As evening falls, enjoy the tranquility of the forest and a hearty meal surrounded by the peaceful sounds of nature.
Day 02
Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
After breakfast, continue your ascent as the dense rainforest gives way to moorland vegetation. You’ll pass through open heaths dotted with giant lobelias and groundsels, offering your first clear views of the majestic Mawenzi and Kibo peaks. By afternoon, you’ll reach Horombo Hut, where you’ll rest, enjoy a warm dinner, and take in the sweeping views of the mountain ranges below.
Day 03
Acclimatization Day at Horombo
This day is dedicated to acclimatization and relaxation at Horombo Hut. A short hike towards Mawenzi Ridge helps your body adjust to the altitude while providing spectacular panoramas of the surrounding valleys and cloud layers below. Return to camp in the afternoon for rest and an evening under the star-filled African sky.
Day 04
Horombo to Kibo Hut
The day’s trek takes you through the lunar-like landscape of the Saddle — a vast, arid plateau stretching between Kibo and Mawenzi peaks. The scenery is stark yet mesmerizing, with views of the summit growing closer as you reach Kibo Hut. Spend the afternoon resting and preparing your gear for the final ascent. An early dinner and early bedtime await before the midnight climb.
Day 05
Summit Day and Descent
You’ll begin your summit attempt around midnight, climbing steadily under a canopy of stars. After a challenging push past Gilman’s Point, you’ll reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m) just as the sun rises over the African plains — a moment you’ll never forget. After taking photos and soaking in the victory, descend to Horombo Hut for lunch and continue to Marangu Gate for your transfer back to Moshi, carrying with you memories of triumph and breathtaking beauty.
