6 Days, 5 Nights Marangu Route

The Classic Kilimanjaro Escape

6 Days, 5 Nights

The Marangu Route is celebrated as the classic, historic pathway up Mount Kilimanjaro, offering a comfortable blend of mountain beauty and gradual gradients. Popularly known as the Coca-Cola Route, it is the only trail featuring cozy mountain hut accommodations rather than camping—making it ideal for trekkers seeking a direct, well-supported ascent through dense rainforests, open moorlands, and sweeping alpine deserts to Uhuru Peak.

Day 01

Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Following breakfast and a briefing in Arusha, drive to the Kilimanjaro National Park Marangu Gate (approx. 1 hour) to complete park registration. Your trek commences along an ascending trail through dense, lush montane rainforest. Keep an eye out for towering eucalyptus trees, rich birdlife, and blue or black-and-white colobus monkeys in the canopy. An optional side excursion to Maundi Crater offers expansive panoramic views across Northern Tanzania and Kenya before you settle in for the night at Mandara Hut.

As you gain altitude, the air turns crisp and you begin to acclimatize to the higher elevations.

Ascending past the final watering point, you trek onto the broad, arid saddle of Kilimanjaro between the twin peaks of Mawenzi and Kibo. The alpine moorland gradually gives way to a barren, moon-like desert landscape. Upon arriving at Kibo Hut, enjoy an early dinner, hydrate, and get plenty of rest ahead of the midnight summit push.
