Day 01
Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Camp
Your trek begins with a drive to Umbwe Gate, where you’ll register and start hiking through thick rainforest. The trail is steep and rugged, winding through ancient trees draped in moss. You’ll arrive at Umbwe Camp by late afternoon, surrounded by forest sounds and mountain mist.
Day 02
Umbwe Camp to Barranco Camp
The climb continues sharply upward through thinning forest and into the heather and moorland zone. You’ll reach the stunning Barranco Valley, where the route merges with the Machame trail. The towering Barranco Wall looms ahead — tomorrow’s challenge.
Day 03
Barranco to Karanga Camp
You’ll ascend the Barranco Wall, a thrilling and scenic climb that opens up panoramic views of the glaciers and valleys below. The path then winds across ridges and through the Karanga Valley, eventually reaching Karanga Camp where you’ll rest and acclimatize.
Day 04
Karanga to Barafu Camp
Leaving Karanga behind, you’ll ascend through the alpine desert to Barafu Camp, the final base before the summit. The camp’s stark beauty and cold winds remind you how high you’ve come. Spend the evening resting and preparing for the long summit night.
Day 05
Summit to Mweka Camp
The summit attempt begins at midnight. Step by step, you’ll climb past Stella Point, reaching Uhuru Peak at sunrise — the top of Africa. Celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime achievement before descending to Mweka Camp for your overnight stay.
Day 06
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Enjoy your final descent through the forest, with birdsong echoing around you as you return to lower altitudes. At Mweka Gate, you’ll receive your summit certificate and be transferred back to Moshi, where your unforgettable Kilimanjaro journey concludes.
