Popularly known as the Whiskey Route, it is ideal for adventurers seeking rich variety in landscapes—from dense afromontane rainforests and heather-covered moorland ridges to volcanic towers, glacial valleys, and sweeping alpine vistas atop the Roof of Africa.

Day 01

Arrival in Arusha

Upon landing at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be warmly greeted after clearing customs by your dedicated safari manager. Enjoy a private transfer to your boutique hotel in Arusha. Later in the day, meet your climbing manager and lead mountain guide for a comprehensive pre-trek briefing and thorough gear check to ensure you are fully prepared for the journey ahead.

Day 02

Arusha to Machame Gate & Machame Camp

After breakfast, depart Arusha and drive through picturesque coffee plantations and the village of Machame to reach Machame Gate. After completing national park registration, meet your mountain crew and begin ascending through the lush, dense afromontane rainforest. The trail winds beneath towering moss-draped trees, vibrant wild impatiens, and tree ferns, with opportunities to spot blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus swinging through the canopy. Arrive in the late afternoon at Machame Camp, set among giant heather.

Day 03

Machame Camp to Shira Camp

Leave the rainforest behind and ascend along a rocky ridge onto the open heath and moorland zone. The vegetation thins into an alpine landscape dominated by helichrysum flowers, giant lobelias, and volcanic rock formations including ancient lava tubes. Following a trailside picnic lunch, cross a rocky ridge onto the expansive Shira Plateau. Enjoy awe-inspiring views of the Western Breach and its hanging glaciers before settling into Shira Camp, with your tent looking directly out toward snow-dusted Kibo.

Day 04

Shira Camp to Lava Tower & Barranco Camp

Today is a fundamental “climb high, sleep low” acclimatization day. Ascend eastward into the semi-desert toward Kibo, climbing up to the iconic 300-foot volcanic landmark of Lava Tower (4,630m / 15,223ft), where lunch is served. In the afternoon, descend through the surreal “Garden of the Senecios” filled with endemic giant groundsels and lobelias into the magnificent Barranco Valley—widely regarded as one of the most scenic settings on the mountain.

Day 05

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp & Barafu Camp

Start the morning with an exhilarating scramble up the near-vertical Barranco Wall, using hands and feet along non-technical ledges to reach the top for sweeping views over the southern glaciers. Traverse across undulating valleys into the Karanga Valley before making the final steady climb onto the bleak, windswept ridge of Barafu Camp. Settle in early, take in the sunset over Mawenzi Peak, and enjoy an early dinner before resting ahead of the midnight summit push.

Day 06

Barafu Camp to Summit (Uhuru Peak) & Mweka Camp

Begin your summit ascent just before midnight, navigating steep scree switchbacks under a canopy of stars. As dawn breaks across the East African plains, arrive at Stella Point (5,685m) on the crater rim to witness an unforgettable sunrise over Mawenzi. Continue along the snowy rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the Roof of Africa. After taking celebratory photos at the continent’s summit, descend back to Barafu Camp for lunch and a short rest, then continue down through the heather zone to Mweka Camp.

Day 07

Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Arusha

Enjoy a hearty breakfast followed by a traditional celebration of singing and dancing with your mountain crew and porters. Complete the final 3-hour descent through the tranquil rainforest to Mweka Gate. Sign out of the national park registry to receive your official Kilimanjaro summit certificates (gold for Uhuru Peak, green for Stella Point). After a warm lunch in Mweka village, transfer back to Arusha for relaxing showers and airport departures.
