Day 08

Tarangire National Park

Wherever you go in Tarangire National Park, you’ll come across the park’s famous and larger-than-life baobab trees and elephants. These are the twin elements that give this park so much personality. There is, of course, so much more. We don’t just mean the huge populations of wildebeest, giraffes, hippos, buffaloes, baboons, vervet monkeys and zebras. Or the rugged landscape of rocky hills and rivers, swamps and savannah plains. You also have an excellent chance of seeing lions here – Tarangire is a real lion stronghold – and keep an eye out for leopards and cheetahs as well.

Karatu, Ngorongoro Crater & Lake Eyasi

Enjoy the quiet charm of little Karatu, where the bustling main street offers a glimpse into small-town life, yet tranquility awaits just a few blocks away. You can shop, visit the bank, or simply wander the streets and soak in the local atmosphere. From here, venture to the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, a place you’re sure to love for its incredible wildlife—lions, hyenas, black rhinos, and flamingos among them—and its breathtaking, lost-world scenery. Nearby, the serene shores of Lake Eyasi invite you to spend time with the Hadza people, whose traditional way of life offers a rare and unforgettable cultural experience.

Even just standing on a busy street corner and watching the world go by can be an education. By the end of it all, Arusha could end up being an unexpected highlight of your safari.
