7 Days Machame Route Trek

The course accesses the roof of Affrica Mount Kilimanjaro from the south, opening with a short drive from Arusha to Machame Gate. The path takes climbers over the rain forest to Shira Plateau. Right at this place, several of Kilimanjaro’s ways meet. From that point the way turns east and crosses below Kilimanjaro’s Southern Ice Field on a trail named as the Southern Circuit before the peak from Barafu. Decline is made through the Mweka way.

Day 1: Machame Gate to Machame Camp

Altitude: 5,380 ft to 9,350 ft
Distance: 11 km

After having an early scrumptious breakfast at your lodge/hotel, you will be transferred from Arusha to Machame Village. In this village, you will have some time to buy things like mineral water and you will be provided with a packed lunch. From this village, contingent on the road situations, you will either proceed driving 3 kilometers or walk to the Machame Entrance (1490m).
At the Machame entrance, the porters will organize and pack the stuffs for the trek at the same time you and your guide you will be registered with the Tanzania National Park (TANAPA). After these formalities you will commence your ascent into the tropical forest.

Day 2: Machame Camp to Shira 2 Camp

We will have an early morning good breakfast, then we will begin our ascent separating ourselves from the rain forest and inflowing the heathland upland undergrowth. We will pass several streams and hike through a rocky ridge onto the Shira plateau that heads to Shira Camp (3840m). At this overnight campsite, we will be close to a stream and have a remarkable sight of the Western Breach and its glaciers in the East. Day 3: Shira Carve to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Day 4: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Day 5: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

Having eaten breakfast, we will move from Karanga Camp (3959m). The way crosses with the Mweka Way, which is the path used to derive on the final two days. As we proceed climbing for an hour, we will arrive at Barafu Hut. This is the final water point for the porters since there is no nearby water at Barafu Camp (4550m). The word “barafu” in Swahili language means “ice” and this camp is situated on a stony, open ridge. Tents will be open to wind and pillars so it is significant for climbers to familiarize themselves with the campsite before dark. Today the climbers will have an early dinner so that they can rest before the midnight wake up as we will be attempting the summit. Our guide will brief you in detail on how to get ready for summit night.

Day 6: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

This night our guide will wake up you about 23:30 for tea and snacks. After that will start your roof of Africa summit attempt. The way leads northwest and you will climb through the stone screen. Having a well-earned breakfast, you and our staff will have a big gala full of dancing and singing. It is right at this place of the mountain that you will be tipping your guide, assistant guides, chef(s), as well as porters. After celebrating, you will slope for 3-hours back to Mweka Entrance.
